Occupational Therapy

Occupational therapy is a healthcare and rehabilitation discipline that helps individuals develop, recover, or maintain the skills needed for daily activities and independence. Occupational therapists work with people of all age groups who have physical, cognitive, sensory, or emotional challenges that impact their ability to perform everyday tasks. Therapists design customized interventions to help individuals meet their goals and safely participate in their daily routines. Key areas of occupational therapy include activities of daily living (ADLs), gross motor skills, fine motor skills, writing skills, sensory integration, functional mobility skills, memory, attention, coordination and balance, environmental modification, and the use and recommendation of assistive devices. The goal is to promote independence and enhance quality of life by supporting people in performing the tasks that matter most to them. Occupational therapists may also work with mental health professionals to address emotional or mental health issues.
