Special Education
Special education refers to educational programs and services designed to meet the needs of students who have disabilities or learning challenges. It provides individualized instruction, accommodations, and therapies to help students succeed in school and daily life. Special education services are tailored to address the unique learning, behavioral, emotional, and physical needs of each student.
Goals are designed based on the child’s abilities after a detailed assessment, and they are set on a monthly, quarterly, or yearly basis. An Individualized Educational Program (IEP) is developed for each child. Special educators work with a team of professionals—including parents, administrators, and other specialists—to create and implement the IEP. This may involve simplifying lessons, offering additional time for assignments, or using alternative formats such as visual aids, hands-on activities, or technology.
They also help students manage behavioral and emotional challenges by using positive reinforcement, behavior modification strategies, and social-emotional learning techniques.
