Swallow Therapy

Swallow Therapy

Swallow therapy, also known as dysphagia therapy, is a specialized treatment designed to help individuals who have difficulty swallowing (dysphagia). Swallowing difficulties can be caused by various factors, including neurological disorders (such as stroke or Parkinson’s disease), aging, structural issues in the mouth or throat, or injury. The goal of swallow therapy is to help patients regain or improve their ability to swallow safely and efficiently, preventing issues like choking, aspiration (food or liquid entering the airway), and malnutrition. The therapy is usually provided by a speech-language pathologist (SLP), often working alongside other healthcare professionals.
